Welcome to the Plant Development Wiki

The guardian of this site is PhilLintilhac at the Department of Botany at the University of Vermont http://www.uvm.edu/~plantbio/

A new page called Cell_Division.htm

This is a forum on plant development, but it is targeted to epigenetic and structurally based processes and will try to exclude purely molecular biological and biochemical discussions except as they reflect on higher order developmental events. If you know of colleagues or others who might be interested in contributing to the discussion please add their names to the NewWikizens page so that I can put them on the mailing list.

There has been very little activity on this site for a number of weeks, mostly because I have been too busy to add much myself. However, I have just added a new page called MakeModel in which I have tried to start thinking about a formal "Calculus of Cellularity". It is a very ill-formed notion to be sure, but if it interests you, you are welcome to add anything, pull it apart, or create something entirely new of your own.

You are encouraged to edit, to author pages, and to contribute to any discussion, in any way that you see fit. The beauty of a Wiki is that anyone can contribute anything at any time.

A nice trick if you want to insert a comment after somebody else's paragraph is to put it in italics by putting it between double apostrophes, (not "quotes") followed by your name. Phil L.

Just log in, find the page that interests you, and then click on "Edit this page" and start writing. You are free to change anything - (even the page you are looking at!) If there is a particular question that you want to raise just Start a new page of your own. It's easy to start a new page, just put a keyword in square brackets, update, and it's done. The nice thing is there is almost no learning curve, no HTML coding, just click "Edit this page" and start writing! "Update" to save your work instantly. If you want to add a little "punch" to your writing you can add Boldface Italics __Underline__, or a separator bar, indents, bullets etc.

Don't worry if your entry isn't perfectly laid out. Somebody else will probably fix it up for you. That's one of the nice things about this format, it's very collaborative and democratic.

You should check the pbWiki tour listed below, in order to learn a few things about creating and editing pages.

Here are some rules that I pasted over from another Wiki site:

  • Treat others with respect, even if you disagree with what they have to say.
  • It is true you can delete anything that anyone else has put up, but the object is to generate a logged discussion of relevant topics.
  • If you see insulting remarks or other vandalism on the site please delete them/it.
  • Try to substantiate your points with facts and references, but the goal is to generate new ideas and not simply to regurgitate facts.
  • Feel free to Think out of the box!
  • Please sign your entries with your real name.

Current discussion pages are listed in the "Sidebar" at the top of this page.

  • Need to quickly learn how to use bold, italics, tables, and more? Check out our wiki style page!

  • Start playing around with your own wiki! Click the Edit page button either above or below!

  • Create a new page (2 ways)
    • First, you can type a word with SeveralCapitalLetters (or even type NewPage), which will automatically create a link to that page! A dashed underline means the page doesn't exist yet.
    • Second, you can put [brackets] around any word to create a new page. For example, if you wanted a page named cars, you could just type [cars].
